Better-Bottle plastic carboys are, as the name suggests, better in just about every way than their glass counterparts. They have been specifically designed for fermenting beer and wine, are easier to clean than glass, are light, unbreakable and safe, and are not gas permeable.
Better-Bottle carboys are not at all like plastic water bottles. The special PET from which these carboys are made is non-absorbing, non-porous, and non-wetting (hydrophobic), so it will not carry over flavors from one batch of wine or beer to the next and it is easier to clean and sanitize than glass or other plastics. Better-Bottle carboys are ideal for home winemaking and home brewing.
